News Archive

Hey guys this is the news archive that was ported from wordpress over to the new site, I realize that its unformatted and sort of a mess, but its better than losing all of that content now isn't it ;)

If there is anything you want from google that shows up on these pages its still there, however all of the comments have been removed I apologize for that as well but it wasn't worth it to port them.

  • Admittedly I am still at the beach, however while scanning the news one last time before going to sleep I found something that just couldn't wait until tomorrow afternoon to post. You see, some time ago, months even, and only a few weeks after the first showing of Final Fantasy XIII we had word that it was in fact 80% completed. So to see that the actual percentage of completion is as low as 13% on a title that is supposed to be out in a year is rather worrying.

IGN has the unbelievable scoop that this title which is now well over a year in production is still at 13%, while we all know Square-Enix is swamped with milking and creating various series, to see one of the more important titles this far away from completion is shocking and rather disappointing.

"What's even worse" you ask? Final Fantasy Versus XIII is a mere 1.3% completed, so I guess basically Nomura created the Versus XIII trailers and just expected the game to create itself?

Like IGN said, hopefully TGS reveals something worthy of people getting excited about again, since seeing different stills of the same trailer over and over again is getting rather old :P.

  • Ok so I come home either tonight or tomorrow, and while I have had internet I decided to distance myself so I could well, relax. With that said, mad shit has happened in the industry and upon return I intend on posting like 20 times cause I missed so much stuff :). So yeah prepare your rested eyes as I have much to discuss.

  • My fellow UGamers, the future of shooters is here. Today I sat down at a friend's house and played Shadowrun on the PC...with people on the Xbox 360! That's right, the boys over at FASA Interactive have created the first cross-console game, letting Shadowrun players go against people on either the Xbox 360 or PC.

I've been watching this game ever since it came out, and when I sat down to play it...let me tell you - it was prime. The different races are all balanced out equally, so no class has a clear cut advantage over the other. The only downside to the game is the lack of single player...you have to go all out multiplayer. Fine with me though, that's how first person shooters are meant to be!

  • Just a heads up guys, I have been on vacation since Saturday and as you have all noticed the server and site went to hell when I left. Everything should be back to normal and running smoothly, sorry about the downtime. The site will however receive a little bit of denial as I am on vacation and I plan on enjoying it with the love that is this site. :).

So yeah I intend to fully enjoy the week off hope everyone here has a summer vacation as well god knows I needed it.

  • I really don't know how to interpret this, so I am going to just spit it out. Basically we have the price drop on the Playstation 3 60GB model to $499. For those of you that are so stoked on that and thinking about maybe getting a Playstation 3 before the end of the year you better think twice. The 60Gb model is expected to only live for another month here in the United States, that means this is supposedly the only time you can get a Playstation 3 for that price with a decent HDD.

Reeves was speaking at an E3 event to announce the introduction of a new PS3 bundle in Europe. When asked about possible criticisms over whether SCEE should have given consumers the option to pay a lower price, as SCEA has done, he replied, "Well, they're not really are they, because what the US are offering from the 1st of August is a USD 599 version with one game.

"All they're doing is taking their stock in trade that they've got at the moment of the 60GB model, marking the price down and it will all be gone by the end of July."

When asked to clarify if this will mean the end of the 60GB model, Reeves answered, "In America, yes."

So basically, we are going to be getting the standard $599 price tag but with a game, what this game will be is unknown, but I can guess its Resistance :P.

[Update #1] So the internet has been abuzz with this story all day, some people are saying its going away others say it's staying. What we understand now is that Sony will offer this as long as supplies allow and they assured us that they have the supply to meet demand for the cheaper console for months. That doesn't really surprise me since no one was buying the PS3s when they were available lol. So while supplies last :/.

So I just got done playing some of the Blue Dragon demo, and from what I got out of it it was actually pretty fun. After I got done playing the demo I decided to get online and check out what kind of news has been going while I have been off. I came across a piece on Kotaku about Lost Odyssey and a hands-on demo Jason Chen got his hands on, So I dove right in being really interested in this title.

Sadly Jason didn't have very much to say in terms of say originality. He feels that the game feels much like a Final Fantasy, and with the creator of Final Fantasy manning the Mistwalker studio that doesn't much surprise anyone. Jason was however disappointed in the fact that while the game is using the Unreal Engine, other games that are using the engine look better, like Mass Effect for example. So basically this is just another RPG with a new story, and a couple unique gameplay aspects but its nothing really new to the Japanese traditional RPG scene.

Here's what we think from the demo. Will I buy this game? Yes. I'm a sucker for traditional Final Fantasy games, and seeing one with improved graphics, slightly different gameplay structure, a pretty good story, and the stuff that I grew up with is too tempting to pass up. But those of you who've grown tired of the same old Japanese RPG style may be disappointed in this one.

  • It's funny how all of the bitches that complained on my Sony Conference hate post are well... completely wrong. Those of you that were like, "UNREAL IS PS3 EXCLUSIVE RAWRRR," guess what your all idiots. I apologize to anyone that just doesn't understand. For starters yes, Unreal is coming to the PC and if you don't believe me because you think its still Exclusive, it's not. It doesn't matter how many times Sony says it is.

Not only that? But guess what, the Unreal Dev that was showing it off said 360 date is undetermined. He didn't say, "No, its not coming to the 360 didn't you see the Sony press conference you idiot."

So yeah for the second time, all the haters that talked shit, enjoy.

  • Again Metal Gear Solid looks incredible, and these stills of the game are all the more prove, sporting entirely in-game graphics this title has yet to to impress me. Sadly its supposedly the last title in not only the Metal Gear Saga, but apparently the last tile that Kojima will be working on before his retirement :(. The game is expected to reveal all the secrets and questions that gamers have about the Metal Gear series, and if it plays as good as it looks it might be the best Metal Gear of all time, but I guess we'll have to wait until March to be sure. Enjoy the shots:

  • I find it interesting the amount of bullshit people on the internet spit with no reasons what so ever to back up their claims. I called out the Sony Press Conference sucking and all anyone did was whine and attack my spelling and grammar. Well congratulations, you realized this site is ran by a teenager do you feel better?

With that shit aside I figured I would make a post about all the conferences, because when it comes down to it, they all sucked. What really matters is which one sucked less, this time I figure I'll just let you guys decide by either posting here or by voting on the side of the site.

Let's just handle this post in order of appearance, first we had the Microsoft press conference. While most of us were expecting a lot more out of Microsoft I think they delivered what they had. Admittedly it's disappointing that we didn't get a price drop like Sony did, but it's still cheaper to buy a 360. The worst part of the presentation had to have been the number dropping, saying the 360 has sold more consoles is hilarious, of course they have it's been out longer.

In terms of games Microsoft didn't really have that much to show, but what they did show was impressive and when all the games on display are coming out this year with exception to Resident Evil 5 it at least gives us something to look forward to. With that said, what was everyone expecting from Microsoft? They already have the most consoles on the playing field, and are still selling more than the PlayStation 3. I don't know why everyone expected a company that is already doing what they want to accomplish to come out with anything more than they did. Though, it is hilarious that Peter Moore got crickets when he brought out that stupid Halo 3 Special Edition console.

Next Nintendo, even though the Wii is selling like hotcakes I think a lot of people are worried about the future of this console in terms of games and third-party support so lets see what they had to offer.

Sadly... much of the same, while Nintendo does hold their own, they seem to rely way too much on themselves and not enough on third-party developers. I don't know if Nintendo is blocking them out or if developers just aren't wasting their time on the console. Whatever the case, it needs to stop. Nintendo showed off plenty more toys for the Wii that should keep us busy until someone else decides to start making games for them. First off we got Mario Kart coming to the Wii, that's hugely good news, and that steering wheel does look really tight, though I wonder how many peripherals one console can possibly have. Next we got Wii Fit, which in my opinion looks genius, as fun as it is to play the fitness test on the Wii this game and pad might actually help people exercise, and its on the Nintendo Wii maybe some nerds will have less reason to keep putting it off.

Then guess what? Nintendo gave us another peripheral. I wonder if it's going to get to the point where every game you get for the Wii needs its own special controller extender. Does anyone out there know how many peripherals we have total? Let's try and add them all: Wiimote, Classic Controller, Numchuck, Wii Guitar(not out yet), WiiGun, WiiSteering Wheel, and WiiMat? Keep in mind that all of these devices with exception to the guitar should have multiple uses in Nintendo games. Does anyone else here notice how the Wii may very well be the most expensive console considering to experience it completely you need so many pieces of extra hardware?

Oh wow and the games... So we got a demonstration of Metroid, tight. Wasn't more or less of what I was expecting and I look forward to playing it. We also got a little Super Smash presentation and finally a release date, but guess what we didn't get? Confirmation of Smash online, the lack of online Wii titles is depressing, especially when Reggie himself brought it up and claimed they already got serious with online with Mario Kart DS. No offense Reggie, but thats one game online, how about some more? Or even some of those Wii games?

Lastly we have the Sony Conference. I think most of you know how I feel about this conference, and after seeing the internet think otherwise I decided to rethink about it, and to be honest I still think it sucked.

First we got Home, this is one of the best looking features coming to the PS3 network. In fact the first time I saw it it made me want a PS3. But after seeing Home like 4 times I got a little sick of it, I mean does anyone else want to watch the PS3 conference over Second Life? I sure don't and wish they had taken a different approach to presenting what Home had to offer.

Sony then went on to show off a lot of titles coming out. They showed off more games than anyone else at the conference... I am not sure why everyone thinks I don't know this. Among my favorites of the show are Heavenly Sword, Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Unreal 3 and Little Big Planet. But perhaps Sony's most impressive performance wasn't on the PS3 at all, it quite possibly was what they showed off for the PSP.

In terms of announcements, Sony had the most to offer, with exception to the price drop being leaked, that was still huge news, I know I am personally stoked that getting a PS3 is now that much more plausible, and with the recent drop on the PSP and now the redesign it would seem that Sony is finally attempting to make some moves.

What still makes me dislike the Sony Conference is the lack of holiday titles. While it's important to show off your console's future, it's also important to show off its current line-up. With so many of the titles not coming out until next year it's hard to say that Sony will do all that well come this holiday. So when it comes to showing off, yeah, Sony won, but when it comes to showing gamers what they're getting, they fell short. They just continue to tease us with games that we still can't play for a good while.

So yeah... everyone happy? I hated all three conferences so suck it.

While we could sit here and argue about which console is better, and who has the most exclusives, when it comes down to it, games like Assassin's Creed make it fairly obvious that in either consoles case, great games are possible. If you ask me, this game looks more impressive than everything else we have seen to date for either console, you can sit there and compare Gears Graphics, or the stealth factors in Metal Gear.... but when it comes down to it, this game appears to have elements of everything we love in gaming, and the giant open worlds that we're allowed to explore just makes it that much better.

If anything, non-linear gameplay should be a standard by now, but the next-gen just keeps pushing graphics and not the extent of what we can explore and interactive with, which is why this game is so appealing. :).

One last thing, I know I titled this article "Screenshots," but to be perfectly honest with you, its to the point where this game looks so good that its worthy of putting just a still image of in-game graphics on your desktop, I know I have :P.
